Choosing the Right Cycling Bicycles

In the last couple of decades a major shift has been happening in transportation. One thing you can consider when choosing a bike is whether or not your feet can rest flat on the floor while you are sitting so you can stop yourself. There are some people that say this isn't the best way to choose, though. They say that it is better to give yourself a few inches between your feet and the ground to create a more comfortable cycling experience. If your feet are sitting flat on the ground while your butt is on the seat, this usually means that the seat is too close to the crossbar and will need to be adjusted for comfort. If you can bend your knees, your knees will come up too high when you are pedaling.

For road bikes take away 9 inches from the total of your inseam. This is to account for the size of tires you will use on a road bike. Road bikes are meant for city cycling—the tires are thinner and work best on concrete paving. For a mountain bike take away 12 inches from your inseam. Again this is to account for the size of tires. They are thicker and meant for a rockier terrain. You can of course use a mountain bike for road cycling but this isn't supposed to be their primary use.

Never leave out the safety gear, either. There have been many advancements her response on bicycle helmets since they first were introduced. Now they offer better protection while being a little bit more stylish. You should never, ever ride your bicycle unless you are wearing your helmet. You'd be surprised at how many lives have been saved from that one simple thing.

You might also consider investing in elbow, knee, wrist and ankle guards—especially if you are going to be going “off road” on your bicycle. Pants clips are another great investment, especially if you are using your bike as your sole means of transportation. They work by clipping your pants out of the way so they can't get tangled in the chain or gears.

When looking for a bike your main goal is to find one that suits you physically. This is the most important thing to consider when looking into using a bike to get around. You need to feel safe but also comfortable on your bike, otherwise you won't enjoy riding it!
